A unique coral stone with a 12 or 13 inch human footprint on it was discovered last week by the Fiji Museum.

Giant foot mark found in Fiji

Fiji Museum Field Research Officer Sepeti Matararaba says this is the only artifact of its kind found by the museum.

Matararaba says they are surprised with the size of the footprint which is almost 12-13 inches long and 8 inches wide.

Matararaba is encouraging the public to come see the artifact for themselves, and see proof of how huge ancient Fijians were.

"We are inviting people to come and see the size of the people that lived in Fiji in early days, they were huge when compared to people living nowadays especially when we see the size of the footprint on the stone."

Matararaba says they are still trying to find out whether there are any traditional belief' s attached with the stone.

The coral stone was found in Namuka village in Nadroga.
