French find puts humans in Europe 200,000 years earlier

Experts on prehistoric man are rethinking their dates after a find in a southern French valley that suggests our ancestors may have reached Europe 1.57 million years ago: 200,000 earlier than we thought. What provoked the recount was a pile of fossilised bones and teeth uncovered 15 years ago by local man Jean Rouvier in the Herault Valley, Languedoc.Experts on prehistoric man are rethinking their dates after a find in a southern French valley suggested our ancestors may have reached Europe 1.57 million years ago: 200,000 years earlier than we thought.

Conservation center prepares to excavate temple site

Digging up the past: Students and residents look at a new archaeological site within the complex of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII) in Yogyakarta on Monday. Workers found old structures, believed to be part of a 9th and 10th century temple, while digging the foundations of the university's new library building last week. AntaraYogyakarta Prehistoric Legacy Conservation Center (BP3) office has started preparing excavation plans for a recently found archeological structure, believed to be part of an ancient temple, in the compound of the Indonesian Islamic University (UII), Yogyakarta.

Ancient Book of Mark Found Not So Ancient After All

The University of Chicago has found after careful study that what was previously was thought be a very old copy of the Gospel of Mark in its library is a modern fraud.A biblical expert at the University of Chicago, Margaret M. Mitchell, together with experts in micro chemical analysis and medieval bookmaking, has concluded that one of the University Library's most enigmatic possessions is a forgery. The book, a copy of the Gospel of Mark, will remain in the collection as a study document for scholars studying the authenticity of ancient books.
